For me, this book is a great way to help your baby consolidate the vocabulary he is learning on a daily basis, and to engage him in dialogue about things he knows - even if, to begin with, he just points at a picture and grunts an approximation of its name, while you praise and applaud! As a mum of three, I'd say it's particularly suited to children in the 9-30 months bracket: my sixteen-month old is delighted with it. That said, I can see no harm in introducing books like this earlier - young babies will love the bright colours and the experience of being read to if nothing else: my three month old certainly does.Clear and appealing photographic images of everyday objects make it easy for baby to recognise and name them. As such, the book is more educational than its illustrated counterparts. Another reviewer mentions it's a shame that a sippy cup is shown for cup, and juice is shown rather than water, but to this I would respond that your child will have to know the names for things like these even if he doesn't personally use them, or hasn't seen one quite like it before, so you may as well start teaching him at an early age.Numbers, colours and shapes are covered in an interesting and fairly innovative way. For example, rather than just seeing the shape or colour, you also see an object of that shape or colour by moving the flap. The page on opposites is excellent too, making good use of the flaps in giving pictorial examples of concepts like above and below, left and right, helping you introduce these notions which can be difficult for little children to grasp. The only downside I can see is that, as other reviews have said, the flaps are liable to come off in baby's enthusiastic hands. But don't let it put you off buying this otherwise excellent product: it's such a common problem in books of this type, and easily resolved with a dab of Pritt Stick.
